Denver Chocolate City

Now, fast forward to Denver, August 25, 2008 and the arrival of the Democrat National Convention. Democrats, specifically black Democrats, are occupying the “Mile High City.” With only a four percent Black population, the invasion has transformed this city into “Chocolate City.” It’s not like the city hasn’t seen a black politician. Denver once boasted Mayor Wellington Webb as it leader and his name adorns the city’s municipal center.

Politics and entertainment have unusual intersections. Despite the current fascination with Obama's so-called celebrity status, it's interesting to note the passing of Bernie Mac, comedian, and Issac Hayes, singer songwriter.

We believe we can make men aware of this cancer by providing screening opportunities for those men that do not have insurance or do not have a chance to visit the doctor and also raise money for much need research. We can make a difference!

The 2008 National Urban League annual conference is now history. But, as our Chairman, John D. Hofmeister so eloquently put it, we were in Orlando from July 30 to August 2 to make history and we did. Several thousand attendees from every corner of this country joined with us to renew our commitment to the movement, develop new strategies for the 21st century,

Op/Ed: Black in America misses the ‘why’

And with a television program whose audience must surely constitute a sizable number of White viewers, it is key that this question and its answer be provided. It is not simply that all people are narrow-minded; many are just ignorant of the plight of the Black race. Just think, if the same program were aired in Portuguese, would you be able to relate to it without subtitles? The concept is not far from the same here.

Given the events of the last few days involving the unfortunate death of a Prince George’s County Police officer in the line of duty and the mysterious death of one of the suspects arrested for that killing, and who died while in police custody, the 178 at-large members of the NAACP are again asking “Where is the leadership of the current Prince George’s County Branch of the NAACP?” We have yet to hear from that organization on any aspect of this incident.

Op/Ed: CALL TO ACTION: We Can't Let Our Young People Starve!

Although the City of Baltimore may not have the funds to support another youth initiative, it has access to wealthy business partners who might contribute financial support if they were asked. Corporations, production companies, developers, and investors - like the Ritz-Carlton, Struever Bros. Eccles & Rouse, Inc., the Marriott, Constellation Energy, the producers of the WIRE, and HBO - could easily write-off the expense of another youth initiative in Baltimore without it ever having to be a burden on the City’s “rainy day” budget. If one were to do the math, only 20 corporations, production companies, businesses, developers, foundations, and investors would need to contribute $150,000 to support the youth initiative as proposed by the young people on the hunger strike. A sponsorship of $150,000 by 20 corporations, businesses, developers, and investors could easily turn into a win-win situation and an awesome long-term investment for everyone in this city.

       alt="Armstrong Williams-3" border="0" align="left" hspace="15" />

There is much you can psychologically analyze when you have direct access to the inner workings of one’s soul. Senator Hillary Clinton recently commented that Senator (and strong Democratic presidential contender) Robert F. Kennedy’s assassination in 1968 gives her reason to stay in the 2008 presidential race. What a rare and candid revelation of a desperate and Machiavellian candidate.

I never imagined a time when directors of campus diversity would suggest that Blacks not be hired or when Black students would work to censure a speaker for suggesting that they are capable of competing with their White and Asian classmates in the academic arena. Yet, that is exactly what happened during my recent sojourn to Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania to speak on the topic of “Affirmative Action in the 21st Century.”

Op/Ed: Wright Does Obama A Favor: Wright, the Sacrificial Lamb

This scene frightened much of White America, giving pause because they were shocked by the statements and wondering whether Obama was like his pastor and the church. Obama’s opponents, seeing an excellent opportunity to whittle away at the Obama campaign did so effectively raising a subtle and modified race card inferring “Is he really one of us?” The sheer will of Obama’s opponents kept the loops televised, as they dug to find new angles to a now old story every reporting day. These questions dogged the Obama campaign for weeks, nearly crippling it and diverting its attention from the campaign and the issues that the campaign needed to articulate.

As the financial burden of health care continues to rise in this country, universal coverage consumes Washington’s health policy conversation. However, discussions on the measures that promote personal responsibility and prevent diseases from their onset are rarely held.
