Political Economy 101: dEVNIX Endorses Sarbanes for Congress in 3rd
(BALTIMORE – August 30) – In a cursory review of the leading candidates for the 3rd Congressional seat, one could presume that small business is not a core issue of this race. Just check their campaign websites (vehicles used in this modern age of technology by the wise as a sort of universally-accessible business card/brochure). However, considering the personal accomplishments of 3rd Congressional candidate Oz Bengur in the realm of business, he could easily be viewed as the candidate most likely to understand the plight and how to help small, emerging – even minority businesses in the area.
Quite often, candidates seeking elected office overlook the topic of what they can or would do for small businesses. To ignore this all-important piece of the business community is an egregious mistake. After all, small business is the backbone of the American economy.
With this in mind, John Sarbanes, son of the retiring U S Sen. Paul Sarbanes, has wisely taken the time to at least hear from emerging business owners, many of whom are African American.
Last Monday, dEVNIX Data Management held an impressive meet n’ greet that featured Sarbanes, his father, and more than five dozen business owners from across Maryland.
So, is Sarbanes’ name now synonymous with emerging business in certain circles?
Well, it’s certainly going to take more than some finger food and a glass of white wine for this journalist to make such a claim. However, last week’s event was a decent start.
dEVNIX’s reaction: “In response to the recent inquires regarding the event introducing and supporting political candidate for the 3rd US Congressional district, John Sarbanes, dEVNIX would like to announce that the event was a total success. Several issues were raised with regard to small businesses, including that of legislative support for the small business community. Each concern that was raised was addressed with intelligence, respect, and optimism by candidate Sarbanes. There was no dodging of questions or evasive tactics during the question and answer period of the event. Further, John Sarbanes also expressed his views on education in Baltimore City and the surrounding counties as well. His viewpoint and plan of action appears to be one that will be condusive with a broader agenda by like-minded elected officials throughout the State of Maryland.”
Yep! That’s the official word from dEVNIX COO Brett McAlily.
His partner, Alexis Coates, holds similar sentiments.
Coates, a new fan of Sarbanes, believes that the younger Sarbanes is the best horse in the race. Much of his – and his partners’ interest, obviously, is focused on the development of emerging businesses.
He told BMORENEWS, “Personally I feel that endorsing a candidate that stands for integrity within and throughout the political system will only open doors for entrepreneurs such as myself.”
Coates added, “In conjunction with John’s views on Small Business Funding throughout the state and federal government, we feel that the playing field must be leveled such that small and emerging businesses have the opportunity to compete with everybody else. With regard to the support of John’s views on educational excellence: In my book, he’s blazing a path for optimum success. John’s presence demonstrates assertiveness marked by a certain sense of self-assurance, no doubt a direct result of his father’s success.”
He concluded, “The question is not why should a person in the 3rd vote for John Sarbanes. The question should be can one afford not to vote for John Sarbanes?"
