Dr. Cornel West Joins Anthony McCarthy on WEAA to Discuss New Memoir
Special guest Marc Steiner will co-host Friday’s show
(BALTIMORE - October 15, 2009) – Princeton Professor Cornel West has been called one of America’s most provocative and admired public intellectuals. The New York Times best-selling author has just released his long awaited memoir “Brother West: Living and Loving Out Loud” which has been met with stunning reviews. Cornel West is the first hour guest on The Anthony McCarthy Show on WEAA 88.9 FM on Friday, Oct. 16, 2009 @ 5 pm.
“Brother West” is like its author: brilliant, unapologetic, full of passion yet cool. This poignant memoir traces West’s transformation from a schoolyard Robin Hood into a progressive cultural icon. From his youthful investigation of the “death shudder” to why he embraced his calling of teaching over preaching, from his three marriages and his two precious children to his near-fatal bout with prostate cancer, West illuminates what it means to live as “an aspiring bluesman in a world of ideas and a jazzman in the life of the mind.”
Award winning talk show host Marc Steiner will join Anthony during the first hour as co-host of The Anthony McCarthy Show to discuss West’s memoir and other breaking news issues.
During the second hour of The Anthony McCarthy Show Anthony will be joined by two of the state’s leading social and moral commentators to discuss the world’s reaction to President Obama’s selection for the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize and the blistering criticism of the president by gay and lesbian activists on his administration’s pace on gay issues.
The Anthony McCarthy Show is a public affairs and news program heard each Friday from 5 – 7 p.m. on public radio WEAA. Anthony McCarthy also co-hosts The Marc Steiner Show on WEAA on Mondays from 5 – 7 pm. He is a former spokesperson for Congressman Elijah Cummings and Mayor Sheila Dixon and was the editor of The AFRO American Newspaper and The Baltimore Times.
