JUNE 23rd's BIZ SOIREE: Special Appearance by GOMA Special Secretary Luwanda Jenkins

(BALTIMORE - June 22, 2009) - BMORENEWS announced today a special appearance by Special Secretary Luwanda at tomorrow's June Business Soiree at the Radisson Lord Baltimore Hotel. The free event is from 6 to 8 pm and will feature lite fare provided by the Radisson.

The theme is "The State of MBE's" and will feature some pretty prominent business and political leaders, including Pless Jones and Sen. Cathy Pugh. The keynote speaker is Delegate Herman Taylor of Montgomery County. FMI, click here.

Biographical Profile

 

Luwanda W. Jenkins was appointed Special Secretary of the Governor’s Office of Minority Affairs for the O’Malley-Brown Administration in May 2007. As Special Secretary she is responsible for working with the business community to expand minority and women-owned firms in the State of Maryland to fulfill commitments in state contract spending. She has over 20 years of experience in the field of communications and management including, community relations, marketing and minority business program development with both public and private sector companies.

 

A committed advocate and volunteer, Ms. Jenkins has served on the boards and committees of several organizations including, Associated Black Charities, Baltimore Area Grantmakers, Junior Achievement, the Girl Scouts, the Maryland/DC Minority Supplier Development Council  and United Way of Central Maryland. She has received numerous awards, including the Governor’s Distinguished Service Award, Maryland’s Top 100 Women, Press Time Magazine’s 20 under 40, and Towson University’s Distinguished Black Marylander. She is a graduate of the Greater Baltimore Committee’s Leadership Program and the University of Maryland’s Howard P. Rawlings Leadership Program for Public Sector Leaders. She received her degree in mass communications from Towson State University, and a master’s degree in administrative science from the Johns Hopkins University.

 

Ms. Jenkins is a native of Baltimore, Maryland and currently resides in Baltimore County with her husband Bryant and their two children.
