Ngwala Announces Bid for Prince George's County Council's District 5

Nakia Ngwala, Candidate for District 5, Prince George's County Council

 (SPRINGDALE - February 15, 2010) - Nakia T. Ngwala announced her bid for Prince George’s County Council in District 5 via live webcast from The Corporate Office in Landover, Maryland February 13th.


Mrs. Ngwala is a published columnist who has written subjects on economic development and education. Her articles have been published in The Sentinel, the Gazette, the Bowie-Blade, and the Baltimore Sun newspapers.


Ngwala is the President of the Ardmore-Springdale Civic Association (ASCA) and Chair of the ASCA Bellehaven Action Plan Committee. She is a member of the United States 2010 Census Complete Count Committee in Prince George’s County. Mrs. Ngwala is a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Education Committee. She also serves on the Advisory Board for TEEMM.PR Youth Enterprise that advocates for youth development.


Ngwala is the daughter of retired Fire Fighter Battalion Chief James H. Whitley, Jr. and retired Public School Teacher E. Laverne Whitley, both residents of Prince George’s County, Maryland.


Her place of worship is at Reid Temple African Methodist Episcopal Church located in Glen Dale, Maryland.


A native from Washington, D.C., Nakia has been living in Prince George’s County for over 20 years, and currently resides in Springdale, Maryland with her husband, Mayi M. Ngwala with their two sons, Xavier and Xander.
