THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF HEALTH SERVICES EXECUTIVES (NAHSE) CONGRATULATES PRESIDENT-ELECT BARACK OBAMA ON HISTORIC WIN
(WASHINGTON - BlackNews.com - November 14, 2008) - The National Association of Health Services Executives (NAHSE) would like to congratulate President-elect Barack Obama on his inspirational and historic win. NAHSE is a 501 c(3) non-profit association of Black and minority healthcare executives founded in 1968 for the purpose of promoting the advancement and development of healthcare leaders and elevating the quality as well as access to health care services rendered to minority and underserved communities.
"The National Association of Health Services Executives would like to extend their congratulations to President-elect Barack Obama on his historic victory in last Tuesday's election. We are confident that health care reform will continue to be at the forefront, as one of the single most important issues that President-elect Barack Obama will address during his presidency. Health care reform is the single most critical issue facing not only African-Americans and other minorities but all Americans today; second only to the economy. With forty-five (45) million Americans uninsured; health care reform has never been more needed in this country as it is today, considering the economic crisis and fallout that we are all facing," commented, Charlisa R. Watson, MHSA, executive director, NAHSE.
Though healthcare executives don't make direct decisions about patient care, they are responsible for allocating resources and for making other choices that affect the delivery of health care services.
"As the executive director of NAHSE, we are committed to working towards these two main objectives: increasing minorities' access to health care and increasing the number of Blacks and other minority healthcare executives in the nation's top hospitals and health organizations. We look forward to meeting and working with the new Obama administration on developing a plan that will do just that. NAHSE's leadership and I remain committed to taking these steps and more to help bridge the gap in the delivery of health care services," continued Watson.
NAHSE recently celebrated its 40th anniversary while hosting their 23rd Annual Education Conference, Business Meeting, Exhibition and Diversity Recruitment Expo, which was held in Atlanta, Georgia. This year's conference theme -- "Closing the Healthcare Divide to Improve Health Outcomes: The Integration of Services, Technology, Finance and Training" -- embraced their mission of promoting the advancement and development of Black healthcare leaders by featuring some of today's leading Black executives in healthcare as keynote speakers and panelists, as they discussed elevating the quality of healthcare services rendered to minority and underserved communities. In addition, the President-elect, Denise Brooks-Williams, was sworn in as NAHSE's 22nd President as she presided over the events that took place of the course of four days.
Health care reform has gained currency during this election, but for NAHSE, the quest for minority representation at the executive levels and top-notch health care at all levels of society did not end on Election Day. Log onto www.nahse.org for more information about NAHSE.

I didn’t realize until I received many emails after the first posting that a person being passionate about the arts and politics in equal measure was such a rarity. In fact, I thought it common knowledge that the two were connected indefinitely. I thought it appropriate that this be my post for the year because it will set the platform for the articles that will follow in weeks to come. I was invited to write here because I am an Independent, as I explained before. I am an Independent because of my understanding of America and its purpose. The arts and philosophy have helped to shape those ideas for me just as they did our founding fathers. Read in Full >>
TGR: BET: "Big Ass Chain"? Enough Is Enough!:
BET, in my best estimation, is a profit-driven entity like any other business. However, black America deserves so much more. BET depicts black people as savages with animalistic and materialistic ambitions. BET, from my perspective, condones drug dealing and orgies, popping bottles and partying, and avoids the true beauty of the black experience in America. Somewhere along the line, some industry executives have told our young and beautiful artists that in order to make money, they have to be murderous thugs, whores and prostitutes.
